Iowa Caucus Results,

Posted on Jan 3rd, 2008 by Jim : Capitalist Jim

I wanted to post the preliminary Iowa Caucus tallys.  The following represent voting results with all but four counties results in.  From the initial results some of you may think my posts and optimism regarding Ron Paul's prospect are the result of a misspent youth and hallucinogenic substances.

Ron Paul captured 5th place with just 10 percent of the vote.  However this misses how close that vote was.  I believe my original contention is correct, Ron Paul can win, but it is not the shoo in I predicted.  He'll do better in New Hampshire - his freedom message should play well in the "live free or die "state.  He did do quite a bit better than polls predicted, but not as much so as Huckabee.

      #Votes      % VotePre Polls   Variance
Huckabee3540134.35%29%5.35%
Romney2616725.39%24%1.39%
Thompson1383413.42%13%0.42%
McCain1355613.16%11%2.16%
Paul100409.74%6%3.74%
Guliani35903.48%8%-4.52%

To be fair, Guliani did not campaign in Iowa and should not be expected to do as poorly on the east coast.  Huckabee's Evangelical support will be much less on the coasts.  This campaign is still young.  Ron Paul continues to build momentum.  Without any mainstream media support, he got  10% compared to McCain and Thompsons 13%.

On the Democratic Side, the Peace Candidate won.  Obama was the clear winner with Edwards second, barely edging out Clinton.

There is a lot of time and many more caucuses before the election.

This was the result I was expecting; 10% is awesome. Most of America want a President that they like; some of America look at polls; others look at policy; but 10% of Iowa found the truth.
This is a huge small step for Ron Paul.

As  for who won the republican caucus, Mike Huckabee is in favor of the fair tax.  The Fair tax is a 23% sales tax.  This is added to the current 6 or 7 percent local sales tax.  Most state government's income tax are a percentage of federal taxes.  Presumably State income tax won't go away, so add another 6 % to that total, and this results in a 35% sales tax on average.  Suppose you bought a  $10,000 car.  Your tax would be $3500.

This is immediate inflation of everything of 35%.  Gasoline would then cost $4 per gallon.  Your food, housing, heating, everything would be 35% more expensive.  But this is not restricted to once per year.  If you resold your $10000 car the buyer would another $3500 even if it were only one month later.

This would be an economic disaster.  I would shut down an already weak economy.   You would loose deductions for mortgage interest, business expenses, legal expenses, etc.  This is the biggest tax grab in the history of mankind.  It is regressive, the poorest people would pay the most. Nobody could avoid this tax.

The underground economy which actually helps people get better prices and boosts economic activity would get taxed just like everybody else.  It would be the beginning of a new ice age for the economy.

Sales tax is the most efficient tax in existence enthusiasm for it must be shared with with other fascist inventions such as more efficient ovens in the crematoriums, using human remains for soap, and intravenous injection of air as the most efficient and least costly form of execution.  Perhaps we can also bring back witch burning and mass execution of heretics.

It would began a new dark age, bankrupt the United States, and speed the acceptance of one world government.    Huckabee is also in favor of a troop surge.  Wonderful!  People are not stupid.  Huckabee's support will evaporate.  Ron Paul's support will grow

Yeah, I agree. Anybody that thinks Huckabee is the new man on the scene because of Iowa is a goose, actually nobody is really saying it; everyone knows there will only be a small amount of follow through in NH.

Barack and Paul will both do well in NH for all the indepedent reasons that everyone talks about.

We have a Goods and Services tax in Australia, plus an income tax; we are the most heavily taxed nation on earth. However our Federal government has no debt. That is so important. The states are always fighting the Federal government for cash and now they have got themselves in all sorts of debt. Hopefully with a united Fed and states gov. we will get this anomaly sorted out and get the states out of debt.

Press ReleasesNH GOP Pulls Out of Fox GOP Forum

January 5, 2008 3:49 pm EST

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA - The Ron Paul 2008 presidential campaign praises the New Hampshire Republican Party's decision to pull its sponsorship of the Fox News forum in protest of Fox's decision to exclude Congressman Ron Paul.

“The New Hampshire Republican Party did the right thing by pulling its sponsorship for Fox's candidate forum,” said Ron Paul 2008 spokesman Jesse Benton.  “Fox News' decision to exclude Congressman Paul is unfair, but it won't stop Dr. Paul's message of freedom, peace and prosperity from resonating with the people of New Hampshire.”

Today, New Hampshire Republican Party Chairman Fergus Cullen released the following statement regarding Sunday's Republican forum on FOX:

“The first-in-the-nation New Hampshire primary serves a national purpose by giving all candidates an equal opportunity on a level playing field. Only in New Hampshire do lesser known, lesser funded underdogs have a fighting chance to establish themselves as national figures. Consistent with that tradition, we believe all recognized major candidates should have an equal opportunity to participate in pre-primary debates and forums.

“This principle applies to tonight's debates on ABC as well as Sunday's planned forum on FOX. The New Hampshire Republican Party believes Congressmen Ron Paul and Duncan Hunter should be included in the FOX forum on Sunday evening. Our mutual efforts to resolve this difference have failed.

“While we understand that FOX News continues to move forward it is with regret, the New Hampshire Republican Party hereby withdraws as a partner in this forum.”
